So....
Got a carb from an early 70s seems complete, gonna clean it up and see what happens.
Also got the distributor linked above. Quality unit. We shall see.
I cannot see a silver bix in fron of the battery, so I'm going to presume it was removed
Probably a good choice. If the computer , a silver box about the size of a half cigar box, isn’t in the battery compartment, you’d spend too much time making it work.
if you’re confident in your skills, probably worth rebuilding the carb before going further. If not, there is a gentleman named Lars on the forum that rebuilds q-jets. His work is exemplary and his reputation impeccable.
So...
It DOES have a computer.
BUT I am going to forgo the thing altogether.
How do I control the torque converter without the computer, or make it think all is hunky dorey?
The only thing the computer does for the torque converter is the lockup. You can add a manual switch or buy a separate lockup controller. I think Bow tie Overdrives has one.
I learned a thing!
Turns out the computer has NOTHING to do with the torque converter.
Vacuum controls the TC via an electric control on the firewall.
AND... It appears to be working fine.
HO LEE CHIT Batman!
THAT woke it up!
Fired instantly, idles like a different car.
MUCH smoother and actually responsive.
The old distributor must have been killing it.
One thing...
The tach is a little crazy now. bounces around some
Thoughts?
