We are pulling the dash off my bud's '77 Saturday. He picked up a new tach at Carlisle, and it goes in this weekend. While we're in there, we wanted to replace all the bulbs, and just clean everything up. I've never done it on a '77, so I need to know any problem areas we need to be aware of. Does the column have to be dropped? Are there any hidden fasteners we need to know about? Thanks..
Someone posted on here recently about that topic. I believe they said to keep from tearing up anything you should drop the column down, but not pull it out.
Yep! Got to at lease lower it, not remove it. I've seen loer dash panels snapped in half because people try to pull them out. It's not hard to simply lower it.
Having spent many an hour under the dash of my 77... buy a manual, get a torch and at least a doz of your favourite beers
You will also ned fingers that can turn corners
Its not tricky but you have to take the right thing off in the right order. Mr Chevrolet was damn sneaky in hiding some of those little screws and bolts.
:reddevil:
I have a Haynes manual and a 77 assembly manual and they were worth every cent :reddevil
Take your time, particularly with getting the dash pad out from around the collar on the steering column. The material is old and brittle and expensive to replace. Don't ask me how I know.
