Learned a tip for header re-install today
The 81 had a leak in the factory tubular header, driver side (I should have checked it out with engine was being rebuilt).
So off it came, to the muffler shop, I showed them where the noise was loudest, they said there were several leaks, welded it , $10 ...
Tried to put it back on today...WOULD NOT GO !!! Took it down to the new Vette specialty shop. He put it up to a head and saw that it was warped, high on both ends. (All mating surfaces were on the same plane, luckily)
"Put the center on first, then push down on each end to make them." Worked like a charm. Simple tip, made life easy.
PS- It is quieter but still noisy where I told them to weld ... :mad

You do know that the tubular headers on your 81 are not stock. They are from 82's
