Default Serpentine Sytem - help please

Hi guys -

Looking at the serpentine system #20580 from March Performance. This is for my '72 Big Block 454. I am being told that I need a new power steering pump as my existing keyway pump will not work?

Can't anyone confirm this for me?

When you order it from March you select the pump you are using.

Correct - I called and spoke with Price, placed my order. I am now being told it will not fit with my current Saginaw pump and need to order a GM type 2 pump?

Just had a quick look and of the 5 setups they show for the big block corvette, only one says the GM type II pump while the other 4 say
  • Chrome Saginaw keyway canister power steering pump (reservoir included
Which version did you order? (and for that price you'd think it would come with a pump)

I ordered the short water pump one #20850. Re-reading the fine print it does mention if going on a c3, a factory pump will not work.

Well I guess I'm glad the guy called me b4 he sent it.

I can't justify an additional cost for a new power pump on top of the cost of the setup when my existing one works fine

Smart move.
The serpentine systems are nice but very costly and not worth the expense in my opinion.
There are some more reasonably priced options out there, but you'll still need the new water pump at the minimum.

My car has the March Performance C3 corvette kit, it was installed by the PO.

It's a dual belt design, and it does look cool.

It's a LOT of parts. It does not have automatic tensioners in it, you have to use an adjusting tool or a pry bar and a rag to tighten the belts.

If it was me buying a new one and that's what I wanted, I would gravitate towards Billet Specialties or similar that uses an automatic tensioner, and does not rely on the stacked belt design (uses two belts) of the March C3 kit.

This is the one on my car: https://marchperformance.com/chevy/c...ntine-kit.html

ANYWAYS... figured I'd chime in FWIW.

Thanks for the post. I am just going to use the V-belt system as it's the cheapest way to go. The customer service at March Perf left much to be desired.

You may consider this. Not sure about fit, you'd have to research it.
