I'm hoping, with the wealth of knowledge on this forum, I can maybe find the answer I'm looking for since the search function hasn't really helped me.
The 'Vette is a 1970 LT1 with the numbers matching 370HP 350 under the hood.
When I bought the 'Vette, it didn't have the correct Holley Carb on it, so I opted to go with an Edelbrock 1411 Performer Series 750 CFM Carb with electric choke. My issue now is that the stock air cleaner assembly will not fit onto the new carb, and a flat bottom air cleaner sits too high, even with a 2" element, and the hood will not close.
Has anyone put a similar setup on their 'Vette? What type of air cleaner bottom did you go with? I would very much like a specific one so I can go out and order one right away.
You'll need to check your clearance and then figure out the drop you need.
Use some playdough in a plastic bag (remove the breather nut of course) and check what clearance you actually have
The check the sites, summit etc and see what they offer. Assuming you want an open element air cleaner then edelbrock has what they call their pro-flo series in different thicknesses and drops listed

You have very few options if you want to stay with the OEM aluminum high rise manifold. The stock air cleaner has a huge drop, around 2" IIRC?, and allows you to run a 3 inch filter and still have some hood clearance. If the edelbrock does not fit your air cleaner, I would go back to a 780 Holley, vac sec. Ask around to see if the elc choke version fits or not. Alternatively you could carefully measure your stock air cleaner with the edelbrock, find the interference area, and try or make a spacer for it that goes around the throat of the carb. You may be able to go 1/4-3/8" before you have hood issues. Performance wise the Eddy carbs are a PITA to tune, but do run well once you have it sorted out. I would expect tuning one to the low idle vac of an LT-1 would require some fiddling and parts swapping. Good luck.
I would go get a either a correct 780 Holley replacement or at the minimum, a generic 750 vacuum secondary Holley with electric choke and sell that Edelbrock carb.
Changing the air cleaner to try to fit an Edelbrock carb here is like buying new shoes that are too small and cutting off the ends so your toes have enough room.
An LT-1 is a highly collectible car. Sell the Edelbrock and get either an original carburetor or put back the Holley you have if it is a suitable replacement for the original. https://www.camarocentral.com/1970_C..._p/enc-538.htm
Thanks to everyone that has responded to my post. The intent is to buy a correct numbers matching Holley at some point in the near future, but in the mean time, the Edelbrock will have to do if I want to continue to drive it.
For those that gave me leads, I will follow though with those...hopefully one of them will pan out.
