Default Which Hooker?

I have a 1973 Coupe with a 454 cu in that I am stroking to a 496 cu in.
I am looking at Hooker Headers and noticed they have two sets for the big block Corvettes.
One is P.N. 2225-1HKR which has 2.125" primary tubes and 3.5" collectors.
The second one is P.N. 2123-1HKR which has 1 7/8" primary tubes and 3" collectors.
For those running Hooker Headers, which set are you running?
Has anyone tried to fit the 2225-1HKR's?

I'd run the one with the larger diameter primaries. The 1 7/8" would most likely restrict you top end performance. I'd put 3" exhaust with an X-pipe and free flowing mufflers behind it too!

I agree with running the larger tubes, but I'm also concerned about clearance issues with a big block, chassis and the steering box.
Also the larger 3.5" collector may effect ground clearance.
I've got a set of 2" tube Hedmans sitting on the shelf for my build, but the Hedmans only come with a .1/4" flange and the Hookers have a 5/16" flange.

I plan to run 3" and an X-pipe exhaust system already.

Just went thru this with mine and found that the 2 1/8 have ground clearance issues. 1 7/8 I think would be too restrictive depending how radical the motor is. Another option is sidepipes. Hedman makes a set of 2 inch pipes.

I was going to go to a ACP/STAHL side pipe myself but the lead time didn't work for me.

Best of luck!

Ditto on the poor ground clearance with the bigger ones. I tried to make them work by grinding off the flanges and using a slip joint at the collector but just couldn’t get enough clearance. Expensive mistake for me.

Thanks, I guess I'll keep my 2" Hedman's.
