Default Capping the STS baffles - one way

Though I'd do a quick thread on how I capped my STS baffles. There seems to be a lot of discussion lately on how to quiet down sidepipes, which I am one of. Anyways I thought what about jamming a freeze plug into the end of it? And it worked beautifully. I ordered a slew of different size freeze plugs from Summit and the ones that worked were these (Melling MPC-80B, 1-3/8" dia) I ended up grinding a little bit off the diameter so they would start in a little better, then with the butt of an old hammer I pounded them in. They fit perfectly and have stayed in now for probably 100 miles. The sound was noticeably quieter (not quiet lol) but a little less loud. So just throwing this out there as an easy solution which doesn't require the removal of the sidepipes. Removing mine has always been a major pain. As to whether the cap on the upstream or downstream end has any difference who knows...

Jim

When I used them they already had a cap on one end, I take it yours never had one?

I was one of the original buyers for the STS Baffles when he first introduced them years ago. Mine came capped and I was unaware that the recent model comes uncapped. That explains why I would read recent posts about the STS Baffles being loud as when mine are capped, I don't find them to be loud. Early on, in an effort to gain extra performance, I cut the spot welds and removed the caps. I machined a piece to fit inside the tube to block it when I drive it on the street. I have it secured with a threaded thru bolt all accessible from the end of the Hooker 4" tube. When I am at the track, I can remove the plugs for the extra performance. When on the street, I wanted the plugs to be securely held in place with a bolt so that it would not come out and damage a vehicle behind me. I will say that with the plugs removed, I find the baffles to be too loud on the street so I limit pulling them to when I am at the track. Quite a bit of difference to my ears.

Thanks for the post. This encouraged me to check my STS caps and sure enough the passenger side had come off at some time. FYI, no fault with STS, I had these tacked on after several iterations.

I guess you'll be keeping those STS inserts. Thanks for this post! I'll have to buy a set to modify.
