Default 1980 wiper issue - now solved June 5, 2019

With car now running again I was doing a pre-inspection inspection. The wipers have an issue. If I move them to delay setting they move once and that's it. If I place them in normal run, they run. But if I place them into high speed they cycle once and stop. If I then move them to normal run, they won't run. If I then park them and go back to normal, they run OK again.

I've read up on pulling the wiper switch and cleaning it up. But is there a quick fix that will simply allow them to run at normal speed regardless of position. The reason is that all that Pennsylvania requires is that the wipers run. They don't have to run with the bells and whistles of intermittent and high speed. And I need to get this car on the road to verify that the change Bairs made to the rear end gear set has fixed the gear whine issue I'm having with the new gear set they installed.

Vince, I went thru the same when I got my 81. I bypassed the intermittent pulse delay with the setup attached until I bought the new redesigned unit.

The issue could be your wiper switch or the delay module (which is behind the passenger seat, in the compartment).

I would eliminate the possibility of the delay module first since its easiest to get to. The wiper switch is much harder to get to behind the dash.

You can bypass the delay module by looking at a wiring diagram or you can purchase the bypass module from Lectric Limited for $17:

When you bypass the delay module, there will always be 12v presented to the middle pin of the wiper motor (i.e. no delay). The wiper switch will then control OFF, PARK, LOW, and HIGH speeds.

Reaper, Lakesider,

Thanks both for the fast replies which should be useful. I'll tackle checking these both out tonight - after taking her out for a quick drive around the neighborhood.

Default Wiper issue resolved by bypassing intermittent controller

Thanks again guys for direction on this. Below is a picture of the disconnected connector in the storage bin. The red and blue lines show the positions I jumpered based on the references you provided. The red line jumpers the pink and pink-with-black-stripe wires. The blue line jumpers the white and brown-with-white-stripe wires. The result is wiper switch position 1 which was previously pulse now operates at normal speed. Positions 2 and 3 operate as before, i.e. normal and high speed. Now I just need to find the right size tabs to crimp on some wires and make the fix permanent.

I just replaced the wiper switch and it was a pain. Had to remove light switch, ac duct, and modify the hole in the new dash pad to accommodate the benzel. Once I snapped it on its holding the switch in place. The hole for the screw was not in the right place and didnt have a way to drill a new one without dissembling the dash pad. At this point the benzel is holding it in place.
