Default TIP Swap - Throttle Cable

I'm getting ready to upgrade my GM TBI system to a polished OEM TPI setup. Have almost all the parts gathered, but wondering what others have used for the throttle cable? Searching thru last posts, I have seen references to using a third gen cable, lokar or spectre. Anyone out there that can provide specifics on a good fitting solution?

Would a C4 cable work?

(If any moderator could change the post title to "TPI Swap," would be great. Silly autocorrect. ..)

the c4 cable works perfectly. Did it on mine and that's the best easiest way.

Thanks! I rooted thru the box of parts that came from the setup i purchased a year ago and found the original throttle cable, cruise cable, and bracket. Been staring at the stuff so long I forgot what was in there!

One less piece to worry about. Now I just need to decide what to do with the fuel lines to adapt the TPI to my existing TBI setup.

Not sure if you are aware or not but you will need to change out the fuel pump. The Tbi only puts out somewhere like 12 psi and the tpi needs 35-38. And make sure you have the little clip for the cable where it hooks up to the throttle body.

When I setup the TBI, I planned for future upgrades, figuring this would be a stepping stone. For the fuel pump, I installed an AD Delco EP241, the stock pump for the 5.7L TPI applications. Hopefully covered there as it is rated for 50 psi, I think

Good idea on the clip. Will have to dig thru the parts to verify. Want to have everything possible on hand to minimize downtime.

I put an '86 TPI tpi in my 78, and changed out the trans to a 200r4. My set up is for a Mass Air Flow, not speed density. If you have any questions about any of this, just PM me. Got a great harness set up with every wire labeled. Lots of stuff I went thru that I'd be glad to share. ECU, prom etc. Car runs good, but so far just up and down the driveway. Lots more to do. Good luck.

Will certainly send some questions your way. I remember your thoughts when I wrote up my TBI install a couple of years ago (here).

I polished the plenum and runners last year and likely have 90% of the parts. I'm wrestling a bit with moving ahead with the TPI solely because the car is running soooooo well right now!

I have a 77. began with a Lokar braided stainless system. The braided stainless soon began to deteriorate, with prickly points of broken stainless wire all over it. I bought a AN O3 hose intended for a nitrous system and an O3 polished bulkhead connector. The bulkhead connector (minus the short side O3 hose connector) went through firewall, the O3 hose screwed onto it and was cut to the proper length, and all of the Lokar hardware fits, looks an performs beautifully.
