One f my headlights when up will shake gong down road and other does not.
The one is not loose but you can wiggle it.
Is this the bearings in it. And if so is this a hard job to replace them?
Can this be done by a novice like me?? :chevy :seeya
Not bearings but bushings. I need em on mine too. If you lay up under there with the lights in the up position and wiggle em you can see where the slop is. Its in the mechinism that raises and lowers them.
If your bushings JVETTE 73 told you about are ok there is something else you can check while you're under there.
Underneath each headlight assembly there is a thin bracket with an adjustable bolt on the end. Have someone raise the lights (or push them up by hand) and you'll see that this bolt will contact a "stop plate" when raised (when the light is down they don't touch anything). If that bolt does not fully contact the plate you will also get some play in the light allowing it to wiggle up and down a tad. Enough to be annoying when your lights are on at night and it will allow the assembly to rattle.
My lights rattled a little when they were up when I first got the car and I CAN'T STAND RATTLES. I glued some felt to each of the bolt heads and adjusted them to contact the stop plate a little more firmer. Voila...no rattles or wiggling lights. You don't want to tighten them up too much or your headlight will not raise to the full open position. We're only talking about a turn or two on the adjustable bolt.
Cajun is right. Take my word for it, if you go through all the trouble of changing those bushings (and I mean trouble) you will be disappointed, you still will have bouncing lights. Adjust those stopper bars, that will cure it....
