Have any of you used GE glyptal paint for painting the inside of your engines, or used any other paints for painting the inside? Have you ever epoxyed screen over the oil drain holes in the lifter valley area of your engine? Did you use stainless steel screen, and if so where did you find stainless steel screen? Thank you for any advice you can give me in these areas of my engine rebuild. Tom
I think more important than painting the inside of the block is a thorough cleaning and deburring of any flash that could later crack loose and migrate around. The screens are mostly used with roller lifters and race engines, but you can buy kits to do it from Summit, Jegs, etc.
GE Glyptal paint is the paint to use,but I never have used it as it is not easy to find around this area. I believe GE used that paint for painting
transformers. As for the screen,I would be concerned that it would cause
a problem rather than prevent one.
Glyptal paint is used to seal and protect electrical connections from water and corrosion. I would check out a Graingers, or any industrial electrical supply warehouse.
I did my valley with Glyptal. Eastwood sells it by the quart can or in a spray can.
Yes, it dries fast too! I plan to use the screen kit from Moroso.
Just wanted to tell you that your engine looks great.
The day will come when I get into building my own engine.
Keep on good work, I feel the addiction to more power - and the influence of BB

The reason for the glyptal is a smoother finish for faster draining and to seal the porous casting. Dirt will embed in the pores, with glyptal on it that can't happen.
You can go all crazy with that stuff, some only do the valley, stingray did the front face of the block too. Some also do the non machined parts of the underside of the bloc.

Glyptal/glytol ...can't remember which. Anyway, may not be too hard to find. Look in your phone book's White, Business pages under "GE Supply" ... even my little burg of about 35K has a GE Supply outlet ... & they keep it in can & aerosol.
