Default What's this please?.......

I had my 72 (4 speed manual with hurst shifter) up on the hoist today and stumped as to what this disconnected cable did? It ran from side of gearbox up onto side of motor but was clearly disconnected at motor end. Any thoughts.... please excuse ignorance if this is an easy answer, only had her a short time.

Looks like the parking brake cable. It should be connected toward the middle to the other parking brake and then run up toward the front of the car to the parking brake handle.

edit: the cable housing looks like the parking brake, but it wouldn’t be up by the trans and engine.

It is the lockout cable .Your key wont lock the steering unless in reverse when connected to stop people turning the key off to coast in your drive and lock the steering and your key wont come out unless it is in reverse.:thumb

Yes and if you need a new one, make sure you lubricate the cable itself before installation so that it won't kink on you. Don't ask me how I know.

Thanks everyone, I will leave it disconnected as it all works fine as is. Steering locks when keys out in any gear and saves putting in reverse when parked I guess.
