Default Electronic Tach questions.

Two questions:

1) Will after-market electronic tachs for 1975s (such as those found at Zip) fit without modification in the space for a 1972 mechanical tach?

2) Will a Holley sniper feed the proper signal to those after-market electronic tachs?

My 1972 has a mechanical tach. I want to install a Holley Hyperspark distributor and ignition setup. I have a Holley Sniper currently installed.

Thanks in advance

By “after market electronic” do you mean those units that replace the innards of the tach drive or something else?

Several Corvette specialty vendors (such as Zip) carry a complete tach for the 1975. That tach is electronic and not mechanical. I have read that it may fit without modification in a 1972.

Got it. Have a look at this. Eliminates concerns about fit. I don’t know about compatibility with your ignition but it works fine with MSD ignitions.

Wanted to bring up this question again, as I want to install the Holley Hyperspark which will replace my HEI with mechanical tach output.

Both of these are from Zip. The first one is an electronic tach made for the 1975. The second one is an electronic tach made to retrofit into a 1972. So again, will the 1975 tach fit without modification into the 1972? If so, would there be any advantage in getting the retro fit version which is about 100 dollars more?

But why do you want to put the 75 kit in a 72?
You just need a signal from the distributor.......any signal.
I have the 72' kit in my 72' and it gets the signal from the MSD box......works perfect.

For what it's worth, the face of the 75 gauge is different than the 72, the font on the 72 is "skinny" and more square on the 75 so it'll look different than the speedometer.
Either buy the conversion for your tach or spend the extra $100 and buy an electronic 72 tach from Willcox or whoever

Then your tach is either an electronic tach or a mechanical tach that has been converted, which is still basically an electronic tach of sorts. My current tach has no way to receive an electronic tach signal without modification or replacement. I am considering the 75 because I have heard it's a drop in that requires no modification other than wiring it for power and running a wire for electronic signal.

I am still playing with some ideas. Nothing set in stone yet.

I see now what you want to do....
Just buy the kit from Zip’s....it is what I have....it was easy. It is a conversion....sick of cable drive tachs.
You would have to change the face as mentioned so in my eyes....using a 75’ tach is not worth it.
