I think Bubba did the job as the wire colors do not match the diagrams I have.
How do I re-wire it?
This is what I have: 2 10GA Red and 1 16ga Yellow
The wires:
using a standard continuity tester from Battery positive
1. 10GA Red - Ignition on -Lights
2. 10GA Red wire key turn to starter engage -Lights
3. Yellow 16ga - Ignition on -Lights - This must be the coil wire.
I will splice in the correct fuse-able links
can anyone tell me which wire goes where or to what color (on a standard Corvette wire diagram) these wires would correspond?
I also have this diagram from the web references colors that I do not have
2020 Corvette of the Year Finalist (performance mods)
2019 C3 of Year Winner (performance mods)
2016 C3 of Year Finalist
the red wire that controls the lights goes to the big lug with the battery power
the red wire that gets power in the start position goes to the solenoid power that engages the solenoid relay
there should be the coil wire goes to the other side of the solenoid that only gets power when cranking. This wire gets power to give the coil power while the engine is cranking only, then when you release the key the coil gets power from the other wire thats got cloth on it . If you put it on the wrong side the starter will stay ingaged after you relese the key as power backfeeds down to the starter
you are missing the battery cable. strip the 2 big red wires back a little. turn on ignition and turn on the radio and turn signal. touch batt cable to one of them. when radio plays and TS blinks you found the main hot wire that powers the car. the other wire looks too big to be the purple start wire. it is possibly a second main hot wire. now, that purple wire is 50 years old and was borderline for enough amps to fire a starter when new. find the S terminal on the key switch and run a new wire to the starter.
I chase old electrical circuits almost daily. I’ve gotten pretty able after 20yrs! I live on a volt/ohm meter. Automotive circuits are almost impossible without a full schematic glued to cardboard panel. I found a tool that is really helpful! It allows me to have voltage or ground while upside down under the dash. It has sound and color indication. If I make a boo boo it has a resettable circuit breaker. I can cover miles of wires and questions in half the time. Several companies make a version.
