I'm in the middle of removing my diff. I just pushed the driveshaft as far forward as it would go into the trans. Shouldn't be a problem dropping the diff now. Should it? Most of the threads I read about this state REMOVE the driveshaft.

Thanks for the confirmation. Weather wise, yes. It's about time it got warm. The spring was terrible. I'll get the diff down in the next few days. I haven't decided yet if I should just replace the worn side yokes, or go with an exchange unit from Vtech in Rockford. I guess I'll decide once I get it down, get the cover off and take a look inside.
