I currently have mechanical fuel pump on my 350 in the 73, as Im in Austarlia it has been converted to Right Hand Drive.
The fuel pump is actually hitting on the aftermarket engine mount and I need to get clearance.
First option is to try and rework the mount bracket and get the clearance or the second option is to get a smaller fuel pump.
The current fuel pump is about 93mm across.
Does anyone know of a smaller mechanical pump as this would be the easiest fix and would be easier to replace now as the motor is out.
The Holley high performance one is definately shorter but I doubt that the diameter is any smaller. No return line either. You might be better off converting to an electric pump and just putting in a regulator.
Given the effort required. I’d think modifying the engine mount would be easier.
My 73 big block did not come from the factory with a return line from the carb or the fuel pump.
Not sure if the small blocks did.
If there is a clearance issue, you might look at other motor mounts if the brand you are using has a clearance issue.
With the engine out it would be the time to do it.
Other than that the option of installing an electric fuel pump would work with a pressure regulator so you can set the proper fuel pressure at the carb.
