Just another Corvette guy
That's the way it was designed. The two inboard lights are your back up lamps. They should have white/clear centers.

You can make all four lights come on. Just get some new 1157 sockets and bulbs from your local parts store and splice them into your outside brake lights. You will lose your backup lights with this modification though.

and you can add LED back up lights to the license plate screws or frame. no holes-cuts in body or paint.

So the outer 2 are running lights and the inner are brake/reverse? If you spliced into the outboard ones and used the 1157 sockets and bulbs, wouldn't that make all 4 function as running lights and eliminate the brake lights?

No you will have two extra brake lights if you splice the lamp holders for the double filament bulbs and will work as the outer lights

Honestly I did this mod to my car about 12 years ago so I need to get under the car and remember how I did it. I remember using Scotch locks to splice the new wires to the old harness. I'll be under the car in the morning re-installing a trailing arm so I'll try and get a picture.
