I'm looking at different VIR Eliminator brands and they range quite a bit in price. What's everybody's opinions on the ones you have used? One brand I'm considering is Old Air Products they are $148 and are Made in the USA, so I'd love to hear some feedback on that one. Do these kits come with installation instructions? Am I understanding correctly that there may be a line to the VIR Eliminator left unattached or bypassed? I'll be installing this in my early 77. While I'm in there I'm wanting to do the C3 to C4 blower mod to improve airflow out my vents (everything under the dash has already been sealed with new gaskets). Is the c4 blower motor anymore powerful at all than the c3 or is it just the bigger fan on it that makes all the difference? Also which years of the C4 are a direct replacement (plug wise) I already know I have to make a 3/4 gasket.
The VIR eliminator devices are nothing more than a metal tube sized and with proper fittings to swap places with the factory VIR unit. The tubing is hollow and does nothing other than replace the VIR AND to place a low pressure shut down switch in the refrigerant line. My suggestion is to purchase the one with the lowest price, as long as it fits properly and the pressure switch and tubing/fittings are quality made components. I got mine from Classic Auto Air as part of the 134a conversion kit. Works great...good quality stuff.
Did the VIR Eliminator that you guys picked up, fit the original VIR bracket. I was talking to the people at Old Air and they said there eliminator is larger in diameter. And won’t fit the bracket and I would need retro fit it..
When I installed the Old Air VIR eliminator it was larger then the VIR so it did not fit the stock bracket. I made a plate and attached to the bracket and used a large hose clamp to hold it in place. Without it the weight of the can could cause the Evap to crack in a few years. (ask me how I know)
I then replaced the evap and accumulator with a 78-82 unit.
I used a nostalgic air kit had a really tough time getting the hard lines hooked up took a lot of bending to get it right. If I had to do it over I would replace the evaporator and dryer with one from a 78-82.

for the parts I need, I've never done AC before, hell, before this Vette I've never done 90% of what I've accomplished here before. I'll take the hit and buy some stuff and see what works, what don't etc. I'll post pics here. I have the C4 fan motor upgrade ready to install, I'll take pics. I'm going to need custom hoses ran, I have a guy for that. Looking forward to some working AC. Thanks guys for posting this and lets work together to get these things running right !
My on going project... installing the CAA VIR Eliminator kit on my C3... next up is to mount the new compressor and cut/align/crimp the new hoses. (Sorry for the huge picture... didn't really give me an option to resize) Anyway... progress is slow over here (N.E. Texas) this week as it's been 100* every afternoon = too hot for me to be working on an old car.

Exactly what I needed to see You make me feel bad, it was 80F here in Socal and after installing a new heater fan motor I called it a day and chose to go for a drive instead of installing my VIR eliminator
