Hey fella's, Can anyone tell me? If a Vettes engine was replaced by the GM dealer within the first year of its life, would the replacement engine be stamped with the cars VIN? Also what might the suffix code be on a factory replacement. Or would the pad be left blank. Just wondering as I am told this is the case with my car. Thanks..
If a dealer stamped something in a replacement engine's pad, it would NOT be the same as the original engine stamping. And, if you have a re-stamped engine pad...even if the appropriate numbers/letters are there....you have a non-original engine--same as one with the wrong numbers, or with no numbers at all.

I can only tell you that I believe my L46 engine, which was built the same year as my car (1969) does not match the car VIN. So, I assume the original owner had the original engine replaced under warranty and thus a
replacement engine would NOT match the car VIN or be re-stamped. Besides, it doesn't follow that a dealer would re-stamp the engine even under warranty replacement as that stamp uniquely identifies the engine for
tracing purposes. I could be wrong on this, but my own situation says not...
Yea, thanks guys. I think Mike had the answer I was looking for. I never said anything about a dealer stamping an engine. Just wondering what GM would stamp on a factory replacement.
