Need help with tach/cable
When I start the car after sitting overnight the tach works perfect, warm it up a bit, drive it and in about 10min. tach starts bouncing and then goes to 0.
Won't work again but if I again leave it overnight the scenario repeats!!
1. Don't think the cable's broken because it does
work properly although intermittently.
2. Could it be cable lub related?
3. Could it be the distributor's gear/fitting?
4. Could it be the cable's end fittings at either end?
Troubleshooting, ideas, suggestions much appreciated. Thanks, Lou
You dist gears (either or both shaft & cross) may also be worn out/stripped.
Unless you're a lithe, teenage gymnast ... Do yourself a favor ... if you dive under dash to get to tach/speedo ... FIRST go ahead & remove driver seat ... it'll pay dividends.

I'll definitively ck. the cable itself, the connection end & lub, what threw me off was this happening intermittently, i know its a mechanical tach but it was acting like what you'd expect with a failing electrical part or connection.
Anyway, not looking forward to replacing the cable, 65 and very, very, I say very far from svelte & flexible!! Lol!!
