Default Flywheel instal

I am converting my 72 from automatic to 5 sp. I was watching a video on U tube on the installation of a flywheel and it had a locating pin attached to the crank. My crank does not have one do I need to install one?

Thanks

One of the bolt holes is offset, you can't put it on wrong.

You will see a 7th hole on crank and flywheel. They line up when correct.

That locating pin is for the external balance 400 SBC. The flywheel has to go on in a certain position as it has a counter weight to bring the engine into balance.
Internal balance engines can have the correct flywheel installed in any position as it has no counterweights on it.

No. Flywheel only goes on one way. Line up the 7th hole just like it is a dowel pin.

Yes, you can do that...... but you don't have to.

When installing a Tremec be sure to correctly align the bell housing to the engine. There is a procedure outlined in the install kit that will walk you through the process. Doing it correctly will save grief up the road. Some require offset dowel pins. Your are going to love the overdrive on the highways. Jerry
