I am converting my 72 from automatic to 5 sp. I was watching a video on U tube on the installation of a flywheel and it had a locating pin attached to the crank. My crank does not have one do I need to install one?

One of the bolt holes is offset, you can't put it on wrong.
That locating pin is for the external balance 400 SBC. The flywheel has to go on in a certain position as it has a counter weight to bring the engine into balance.
Internal balance engines can have the correct flywheel installed in any position as it has no counterweights on it.
When installing a Tremec be sure to correctly align the bell housing to the engine. There is a procedure outlined in the install kit that will walk you through the process. Doing it correctly will save grief up the road. Some require offset dowel pins. Your are going to love the overdrive on the highways. Jerry
