i was helping my brother with some misc repairs and noticed some corrosion to the #4 rear body mount bracket. it's not rusted all the way through but there there is some corrosion there. the actual body mount looks okay.. it's just the bracket i'm referring to.
is there a way to reinforce the bracket without getting into propping up the body to remove/replace the bracket? i don't think it's serious but at a minimum I would like to stop the corrosion and futher damage to the bracket. ideally i'd like to take it a step further and reinforce or replace the bracket...but wondering if there's another way aside from raising the body.
the car is an '81 by the way...although i think the question applies to other year c3's as well.
If your talking about the piece that's rivetted to the body? It's shaped like a bowl and has rivets around the top flange , there is one rivet on the back side that's under the fibreglass.
Also the body is bowl shaped into it , so yes you need room to angle it out. Never tried it without lifting the body up. You could possibly cut it up to get the rusty one out, but then you have to get a whole one in there.
you can cut it away without lifting the body. You will have to at least loosen one side of the body to lift up enough to get the new one in. I took the body off the frame to fix it and some other mount issues. You might have to patch the fiberglass under the bracket (I had to). Also, if you are not concerned about originality, you can bolt it up instead of using rivets.
