Ok, I know, there has probably been a number of threads about this. But a good halfshaft for a -69 with more or less stock LS3 and a TKO 600. Any recommendations?
I think a lot depends on how you are going to use the car. If you are not going to launch the car hard, a lot then stock shafts that are not severely pitted and fit with solid spicer joints should be fine. 69's had 2.5" shafts and were used on all the engine sizes. You can get them shot peened if you want. If you are going to push them hard then Tom's 3.5" 134" wall shafts are what I use but the weak link would still be the joints. We blew apart a solid spicer with enough power and hard launch. The shaft was solid but the yoke broken from the sheared joint.
I'm using the half shafts that ajrothm is recommending. My car is an automatic but I race it with drag radials on it so those shafts are getting some abuse.
I think mine are pst out of Tampa not positive on the name. I called on a Monday the guy said he was out of them but he would make me a pair. I had em Wednesday afternoon. Across the state. Never a single issue. I asked what they would handle and he said, I'm not being a smart *** but if you have a problem send em back and I'll fix em. How do you beat that.
The Dennys driveshaft pieces are beautiful and are on the bucket list for my 72'.
FWIW.....I use to have aluminum driveshafts made like the Dennys units when I ran the speed shop....they would hold up to 3800lb. car pulling a wheelie so if the wall thickness is good, I am not afraid of aluminum.
