I bought most of a drive train from a 1976 L-82 4 speed Vette. I am going to use part of what I bought and sell the rest. I would like Lars to look at the pictures and tell me if this is a original carb. I would hate to represent it as original and it wasn't. The numbers on the carb are 17056211 2955 ADF I hope Lars can tell if someone has modified it or not. Thanks in advance.

Nice, original 1976 L82 Vette carb. The fuel inlet is not stripped - carb is in great shape. It has been rebuilt by someone, so no telling how they set it up - it should be disassembled and checked for setup.

Jim -
When the fuel inlet strips, they typically install an over-sized, self-tapping fitting into the carb. That aftermarket fitting does not look like the stock fitting. The carb in the photo has the original, factory inlet fitting, which means it's not stripped out. However, as you observed, someone has put an adapter into the original fitting to reduce the inlet line size from 3/8" down to 5/16". Don't know why they would want to do that, but they must have run the carb on an engine with a 5/16" fuel feed line, so they used the adapter shown in the photo. It does not appear to have anything to do with damaged or stripped threads - just Bubba running undersized fuel lines on the engine...
