Default 1971 Wiper Door doesn't open

Hi!
I was out for dinner with my wife earlier on, and on the way home it stated raining... and the wiper door on my 71 failed to open
I managed to wrestle it open and get the wipers going, but the issue obviously need to be looked at!

Symptoms are as follows:
When I switch on the wipers, the door opens maybe 1/2" and there's a fairly loud hissing noise that can be heard, which seems to come from an area just below the windscreen. Pulling the override switch below the dash doesn't do anything at all.

Where do I look first? I have a MityVac, but the one without a manometer...

Cheers

start tracing your vacuum lines, one sounds like it has a good size leak. You could use a piece of vacuum line in your ear like a stethoscope and put the switch to on to create the leak again, then try and pin point it. theres vacuum lines coming in to the cabin just above the brake pedal and they go to the headlight switch and tee then go to the realy on the back of the tach. Look at Willcox diagram for your year and you can get a good idea what the setup looks like

Hi!
Got a vacuum pump with manometer, and my wiper door has a bad leak on the "opening" side. The grommet has separated in two, so I'll have to get a new actuator unless I find someone selling the grommets here in Germany.

Cheers

Most of the vendors on the forum would probably sell the 71 wiper actuator seals

They would - but they are not in Germany 😉
I'll check the switch under the wiper door just to be sure that's OK, but I'm pretty confident it's the seal that's buggered!

I just checked some more components, and the door switch is also not holding vacuum very well.
I'll see if Wilcox will send the bits to Germany, as they seem to be the only ones with a quality switch.
