Default 1977 Console wiring question

On a 77 Vette, the gauge cluster wiring harness. Which end goes up? It is numbered 1 thru 12. It appears that a orange wire and a blue wire on at the end off one side and a black wire and a grey wire on the other end. I appreciate any help. The harness was not connected when I got the car. I just don't want to damage anything hooking it up backwards. Thanks again!!!

I believe the big connector ffor the center gauge cluster (plugs in to the printed circuit on the back for fuel, temp, clock etc) is keyed so it only goes in one way on my 77.

My dash happens to be apart so I’ll post a picture when I get home.

You are correct, one retaining tab is wider than the other one so you can't blow it and there is a guide bar on the side of the connector which will only allow it to go in one way.

Most GM connectors are made this way to avoid issues with plugging them up wrong.

We actually make that connector and I've posted a picture below.. .it's kind of hard to see the difference in the picture though. The guide barb on the connector visible in the picture below.
