Default Fuel Sending Unit

Hello. I have a problem with my fuel sending unit in the tank of my 69. There are the two wires and a fuel outlet at the bottom. The problem is that the one wire that I believe is the ground has broken off of the lock ring leaving just a small section of the male terminal. Not sure if I could get a female terminal to fit securely on the small part of the remaining connector. What I'm not sure of does this wire have to be grounded to the tank or can it be grounded elsewhere?
Also, in true bubba style, could it be grounded to the inch or so of outlet tube? Seems mickey mouse but I'm stuck as to how else to ground it ,if it has to be grounded to the tank. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The fuel sending unit ground wire runs from the unit to the frame. Just figure out how to get a ground wire connected solidly to both members.

I wouldn't risk it with gas running through the steel line, plus having the tank grounded to the frame may help reduce any static electricity build up.

The ground isn't there to complete a circuit so I would think it's there for safety. That being said you could solder it back together with a soldering iron, not an open flame. Theres no lip or another place you could drill a hole to bolt it

Remove one screw and put another spade lug under it. If you're not smoking a cigarette or lighting the pilot to your water heater, the little amount of fuel you lose will not be an issue.

Have a fire extinguisher 'ready'...but you won't need it. Safe way to operate, though.
