Default Steering stop misaligned

Hey All,

i just rebuilt my suspension (new bushing, coils) and the steering stops are considerably off. Like about an inch.

My major here is under the control arm steering stop. My pinky is resting on the spindle steering linkage attachment. That should give an idea of the misalignment.

Full disclosure:

I did not check before disassembling if the steering stops were properly aligned.

I am running aftermarket tubular control arms. I’m 95% certain I didn’t accidentally swap them around... the short edge of the arm is to the rear.

I slotted the cross shafts to get more caster... but even moving them back and forth, the issue is still there.

What are your thoughts ?

Interesting

describes well what I’m seeing.

I did lift the control arms up all the way without the spring. It still didn’t fully line up.

They do that when there's been no weight on them. Even when the engine and gearbox go back in they aren't lined up "properly" . The car has to bounce around a bit to settle the spring to it's working height . But that's with standard pieces. Your lower A arm looks standard in your picture.
Imo.you will have to wait and see until you drive it or roll it up and down your drive way a bit , because of the aftermarket lower? A arm .

Thanks Bazza. Much appreciated. The lowers are indeed stock + polyurethane.

Uppers are tubular + aluminum.

The uppers added more caster... but I cannot imagine so much it would lead to this.

Thanks again and stay tuned.

really high tech steering stops. i like the threaded shaft that can be used to align the stops. they ain't misaligned. nobody cut them off and welded them back on in the wrong place. now, somebody can have 1 tie rod set too long and other set too short so when it hits the stops the wheels are turned to different angles. or only one hits the stop and the other stops short.

Ok. Let’s see how this settles. For the moment the spindles contact the lower lip of the control arm.
