82 transmission overdrive issues
Just to maybe clear some things up a bit. I have read many threads/posts about 4th gear or overdrive not working properly. A lot has been said about the valve body and the lock up not working.
This is my story, maybe it will help someone else out.
My transmission worked fine in 2, 3. In D it would still work but nothing changed with the exception that it would freewheel or coast when you let off the gas. Shift if back down into D and , well, you had 3rd.
The transmission would actually shift 4 times, you can feel it and see it in the tach.
Lock up WAS occurring, but 4th gear was not obtained.
The 2-4 band was not being applied in 4th gear.
The piston [ first one after removing the servo cover ] , had a cut seal. Part of it was laying in transmission housing.
