Default C3 Nose emblem problem

I have a 1976 that was just stripped to the glass & beautifully repainted in bright blue. Many years ago, there was some front end damage & repair and the nose emblem was removed. When I got the car it had no front emblem, but two previously filled holes in the hood and the original nose emblem in a box of spare parts.. The body man dutifully opened the filled holes and proceeded with the total refinish. When it came time for emblem installation, the holes are in the wrong place (Aghhhhhh). The '76 emblem studs are 2-1/16 C-C and is 3-3/16 overall diameter. The two hood holes are 3-1/2 C-C. Needless to say, filling the holes and repainting is a horrible choice. I'd be OK with a different nose emblem, say a 77 or other crossed flag type as long as I can use or cover the two 3-1/2 C-C holes. This is not to be a show car so I'm not concerned about loosing points for an incorrect nose emblem.
Does anyone know some of the detail dimensions of some of the crossed flag nose emblems (C-C distance & will the overall dimension cover two holes that are 3-1/2 C-C)?. I'm thinking '67, '68-'72, '77-'79 ??

Thank you

My 79 emblem is around 4.5" tip to tip, and the holes are approx 2.5 inches apart.

68-72 is 3 1/4 center to center and the emblem is 4 1/2.

Go for it.

Are you sure that the emblem that measures 2-1/6" C-C is a front emblem and not a fuel tank emblem? My '71 front emblem measures 3-1/4" C-C and I installed a newer '73 to '76 front emblem on my '71 around 1976 because I liked the style. It was a perfect fit.
I have since replaced it with the original '71 front emblem.

Many thanks, I've ordered a '72 crossed flag, we'll see what happens.
