Default 78 Alarm questions

i have a 78 thats been sitting a very long time. trying to get it running. i put a fresh battery in and i get all my exterior and interior lights etc. when i try to start the car, the bendix will just touch the flywheel and then all power to the car is lost. unhook battery for a few minutes and power comes back. this is a 4 speed car if that matters. does the factory alarm work like this? there is no lock cylinder in the drivers side door. can i unplug the relay under the console to eliminate the alarm?

thanks guys

Check the 'starter extension harness' where it connects to the rest of the wires (near and behind the distributor).

No the '78 factory alarm does not kill power to the starter. All it does is sound the dedicated alarm horn until the system is disarmed or the battery is drained.

No need to unplug the relay when the arming switch on the driver side door lock cylinder isn't installed/'connected. That switch is extremely finicky and failure prone. It typically fails "armed" and then people disconnect the alarm horn thinking that will stop the problem. Nope! That relay coil stays energized and it causes a battery run-down situation.

The C3 anti-theft alarm system didn't have an ignition interrupt until 1981. How well it worked then I don't know.
