Gentlemen;
I have an 81 that I have been trying to get back on the road (garage find) I replaced all the bushings and the trailing arms, new U joints and half shafts. When I picked up the car it was a mess!
I had to drive the car about a half a block to get it on the trailer and noticed that the speedometer was acting more like like a tach then a speedometer.......When I took off in first the speedometer was saying that I was doing like 70 and that was not the case more like 15 mph
.
I have seen cars do some crazy s--t but this takes the cake!
Anyone have an insightful idea as to the cause? I'm baffled by this one!

it could be sticking from sitting for so long. Wait until you get it road worthy and can put some miles on it to see whats going on. I'm sure its just the tip of the iceberg
If the car has cruise control on it, pull the output cable from the transducer, attach a drill to it in "reverse" and see if the speedo acts the same. If it does, I'd pull the cable and lube it with graphite lube in the fashion shown below.
I think mine did that when I first got it and I replaced the speedo cable and then it was fine. If you're not sure where to look for parts corvettecentral.com is a good site with lots of parts.
