65 396 / 425 . Question, yesterday I took my car out for a drive during 98+ temps, in slow moving traffic, and it started to run hot, not to surprised, It didn't overheat, but got really close. when I got home I noticed it was leaking coolant out the base of the rad. cap. I removed both caps after it cooled down, and topped off the radiator, question is, I didn't realize the two caps were different, one stamped vented and the other not stamped vented. which goes where? and is the small tank a supply tank, or an overflow tank? the shop manual doesn't cover this very well.
In topping off the radiator is it best to fill, the "supply" tank first and run the car up to temp. or fill the radiator and run the car out to temp.
To start with a 65 is a C2 Corvette and this is the C3 forum.
Next your car did not come from the factory with two radiator caps.
You will have to post pictures of what kind of modification was done to the cooling system to determine what the function of the additional tank is and the underside of the two caps..
The tank could be a simple overflow tank but if it is hooked up to the heater core circuit it is an expansion tank.
radiator was replaced with one with a cap. use non vented cap there. in fact, go buy another non vented cap so you know it is sealed. might be good idea to plug off the overflow hose fitting if there is one on the radiator.
