The rear half of my Vette tended to be bouncy -- especially with 2 people on board. So I took advantage of a Summit online coupone and bought 4 KYB's a while back. They are without a doubt the best shock absorber bargain out there!
Anyhow, I did the front shocks first. Gotta admit the 20-year-old Monroe Gas-Matics were OK. Then I got to the back -- Monroe Radial-Matics (haven't seen those in years and years). The first shock I pulled off was SHOT -- you can take it and move it 3-4 inches with no resistance. I had a feeling there was a bad apple in the bunch.
So...when was the last time you checked your shocks?
I have new, front and rear. The rears were the first thing to be swapped, roughly two days after I bought the car. I wish I would have done everything at once, so I could compare, back to back. Instead, I've gone a little at a time.
When I took mine off one had a huge dent in the side.....man was that a rough ride......i'm still building the car up. I was looking for a coil-over replacement. Does anybody know if there is one and where to get it?
Daddo: the rear shocks are very eazy to replace. Id' say about as difficult as changing a tire. The front shocks are a little more difficult, but its not brain surgery.
good luck

Get some good pentrating oil! I used PB Blaster. For the rear lower shock mounts, I had to use a 1/2 ratchet and a sledgehammer to work the nuts loose. The fronts took maybe 2 hours (3 beers). The rears took an hour (1 beer when I finished).
My car has nothing more than normal surface rust :yesnod: No major corrosion anywhere (thank goodness -- I didn't know this was originally an Illinois car until after I bought it -- dealer said it came from Texas -- yeah, right :bs )
