Default Map pocket needs flattened

My map pocket looks like someone had a can of Pepsi in it for 40 years.

Right now I have it in the basement with a 30 pound weight and a tennis shoe on it trying to bend it the other way.

Has anyone cared enough to attempt to flatten theirs out?

If so, what results did you have?

Did you have to use heat?

New springs.....maybe. I have the problem when I put my wallet and some other stuff in there the drivers side upper corner stays out until I take the pad off and reset the spring. When mine is "normal" it sticks out in the middle a little like yours. That doesn't bother my OCD but one corner sticking out does.

I straightened mine twice (steam) and it never lasted, gravity is a b***H. Spring's will never pull that cardboard straight. Gave in and glued a small circle pad of velcro to the pad and pocket about an inch down inside and it holds it closed but will still allow it to open if I needed it to

It has been a long time ago. But I recall a person removed the pouch opened a small opening on the back side. Then slid in an used hacksaw blade that was cut to the correct length. The natural spring tension of the blade straightened the pouch.

Well, since I can now get the passenger side dash in and out in 10 minutes I just put it back in (after a little SEM black to get the threads some color) and it's better but I have a feeling it will slowly sag out again.

The hacksaw idea is very intriguing.

The pocket retaining springs (backside) get tarnished/corroded and weaken over long periods of time. Find similar...but stronger...springs; or do the hacksaw blade 'thing'.
