The stock 6 qt. pan fits OK; it's sump is a little lower than stock. I switched to a Milodon 6 qt.(with "cheeks") on the 79 with the ZZ/502 after I scraped the stock one too many times. I got the Milodon pan from Summit. I have the p/n somewhere.

Massvette, I would appreciate if you can find the P/N. I will arrange a freight of the parts from Texas to Sweden and wants to be right in the first place.
Yea, the 502 pan is too long, busted two of em....last one was the last one, so i cut the pan, about one inche from the top and i cut a 5 qt bb pan the same way, welded the 5 qt sump to the 502, used the 427 oil pump and dip stick, and voila, no problemo.
Moroso also sells the 502 6 qt pan, road racing version, but u need to get their oil pick up screen to use that pan. Look at Summit part #mor20411
When u look at pans, look for GEN V/VI specific pans.

I have the same issues with my 454. The stock Gen VI pan is 9" deep. Great for capacity, but good grief, this thing sits way too low. So I am also going with a Milodon road race pan...it is still 7" deep, but 2" of clearance can make a lot of difference. Anyway, a local shop is getting this for me. I will call them on Friday and get the part # and post here...unless someone beats me to it.
Moroso also makes the road racing pan, for both gen IV and Gen VI motors.
I will post the part number for the moroso pan...don't forget, you have to get the oil pick up screen as well from either moroso or miladon, depending who's pan u buy.
