Default Not Charging?

Guys another problem. Helping a young friend out. Alternator was installed and the hot post contacted the block. I don’t know how long it stayed that way but it was corrected and alternator swapped out. He said they checked it at two Auto places checked good. I swapped it out checked most wiring and it looks intact. But it’s still not charging 12.4 at battery running at idle. Another curve is it’s running bad pooping thru exhaust sounds like right bank. Electric fuel pump and Aux fans added. Any helpful advice.

Are you getting 12v at the batt post on the alternator with the key off. Most likely some wires are burnt.

Check the fusible links. Think one at horn relay, one mid firewall to ampmeter and one at starter

car will run so one at starter should be good , visual inspection at horn relay looks good may have to dig around here. The one to Amp meter located by wiper motor? Or behind dash ? 1972

Check the complete wire end to end to make sure there are not any other burnt areas. Make sure your repairs are sealed.

Will do. There was a splice right there and a weak spot. Also there was some smoke from the upper dash area. I guess I’ll try to find a wiring diagram for a 72 I have one for a 75.

Pull the dash, or you take your chances. These cars burn to the ground when that stuff happens.

My intentions are to pull it out from the side for a peak like changing the light switch.
