Shortening steering column for Borgeson conversion
Good afternoon all,
I am at the point where I need to shorten the steering column for the Borgeson conversion. Any advice on this? for example where I hold on to the shaft and when I whack the end? I believe it hasto be shortened about 1.5 inches is that correct?
I used visegrips on the shaft to keep from going to far. Use a piece of wood to protect the end when you hit with hammer.
Thanks, how did you support the column while you were whacking it? Did you put that bracket in a vice or just stand it up like I have it here and pound away?
When I did my Borgeson install I did it w/ the column in car. Spray wd and smack it w the wood and it should move easily. I d put it it a vise and also replace the lower column bearing while your there.
I took off the steering wheel and placed the shaft on a piece of aluminum
Then I placed a piece off aluminum on the shaft as I tapped it until I got it to move.
