Default Original Steering Wheel

I'm thinking about ripping out the after market steering wheel in my C3 and replacing it with a re-pop of the original Mahogany wood with brushed stainless steel spokes. They are pricey, there's no doubt about that, but they sure look nice. My car has power steering and a collapsing / tilting steering column, which I've never really been comfortable with. Even though I have the original black plastic with brushed stainless steel spokes that came with the car that I could reinstall, it's either too far away or too close and I really can't do much about it - unless I adapt a hub extension somehow and I don't wanna do that. I've noticed the original Mahogany wood re-pop at Ecklers is 16" in diameter and 4" deep. Other manufactures that reproduce just about the same re-pop, like Grant, offer it in several different sizes; 13-1/2" diameter, 3-3/4" dish; a 15" diameter, 4-1/8" dish; 16" diameter, 4" dish. I'm thinking it's because some C3's went out the door without power steering, hence a bigger steering wheel.

My question is there a specific size steering wheel for a C3 with a collapsing / tilting steering column? Will I be shooting myself in the foot if I bought a smaller size? Have any of you seen the Grant re-pop? Is it as good or better than Ecklers? All I've seen are pictures

There was no difference in steering wheel size for power vs manual steering. Wheels changed throughout the years but I think they are all 15”

Earlier cars had larger steering wheels, and were less likely to have power steering, but I think the correlation is to year, not application.

I have a 14" steering wheel in my 80 with manual steering (and without the second set of holes in the steering arms). It is a Volante S6 Sport, with a 2.5" deep dish. It seems to fit fine, with the telescoping column fully extended. Volante also has wood wheels. Worth a look, anyway, and more choices than the Grant line. Please excuse the photo, it was from the start of the interior restoration (converting the interior back to mostly red).

I had the original 16" 67-68 wheel in my 68 and had to add the Ididit column to get underneath it. The tilt doesnt help to much and then some a pillar gague mods had my hand hitting them so I wen tto the new 14" mahogany wheel they just released this spring. I like it but for some reason the wood makes my hand sweat.
