I've had the sidepipe covers rechromed... what paint is used in between the ribs and how is the chrome prepped in that small skinny area so the paint sticks. I tried using dupli color prep spray, then dupli color adhesion promoter, then 500 degree primer, then Eastwood Zinc Phosphate.
It did not stick in between the ribs. The paint came off with the masking tape. I removed all the paint with lacquer thinner.
how can the area in between the ribs be scuffed up?
I saw Eastwood has a epoxy 2k primer and chassis black 2k paint. But cant scuff in between the ribs. What can be done so the paint sticks?
When I did mine, I only cleaned them with rubbing alcohol. No other prep. Paint is still on there years later. I do remember the paint was rattle can, but not what type.

wow, thats crazy... i went through all these steps and NG!
I would recommend VHT paint, if you want to use rattle can stuff. It is made for higher temps and actually becomes harder and better adhered after heat-curing. For more permanent painting, powder coating would be excellent. But it might take a significant amount of prep to get it coated like you want before baking. With VHT rattle can paint, you could just paint over the entire surface, then use a cloth dampened in lacquer thinner to wipe the paint off the outer surface. Done!! Let dry & cure for a few days, then install and allow the heat to bake it to final cure.
