I have 216,000 miles on my differential. The right yoke slips out almost an inch on decel, pulls back in on acceleration, so it pulls right on decel. I believe this indicates a broken "C" clip that retains the yoke. All 3 seals leak. The pinion feels solid. I thought about rebuild/replacement of the entire unit. Until I saw the prices.
I've been counseled by the owner of "Corvette Generations" in Dade City, FL, that it is not necessary to totally rebuild my differential if it isn't making noise or doing anything wrong. He recommended that I replace only the seals, bearings and the retainer clips on the yokes and call it good. I understand that even that would require dropping the unit but that's ok since I need to replace the Batwing bushings and my spring.
Now I just need the sage advice of those in this forum. Which approach is valid? I am on a budget because I will be rebuilding the engine soon.
The side yokes wear causing the clips to fall off. If you have it open doesnt make sense not to do the correct job.
