well im going tommorow as long as it doesnt rain. its a balmy 40 degs here so the times should be pretty good. this will be my first time in over a year to go. in the past year i have change out the cam and re jetted the carb. (it was 25% lean at idle and 35% at w.o.t.) i was only able to get 14.1 last year. any tips? what psi should i run? i have a auto w/ 3.70 gears so should i manualy go through the gears, start out in second, or just leave it alone? i think i should at least be in the 13's with my setup. (at least thats what i shooting for.)
Loose as much weight as possible such as removing the spare and whatever junk you may carry aroung in the car. Use a half tank of gas not full to reduce weight as well. Try to shift up just before the top limit of the camshaft powerband. If yur tranny wont stay in gear long enough on its own then do it manually. With big block power getting traction off the line is usually a problem. Thats where youll loose or gain. I found best traction with my street radials at 20psi and a good smokey burnout. Get the tires wet in the wated box and pull out a few feet. Hold the brake and put it in first and start em spinnin. When they get spinnin give it lots of gas to bring up the rpms then shift into 2nd to get em spinnin even faster. Once they are smokin real good in 2nd, release the brake but keep the throttle down and ride the burnout out for ten feet or so. Hold the brake on the line when staged and put it in 1st. While holding the brake hard load the engine against the trans but not enough to spin the wheels. When you see the 3rd yellow light, release the brake and put down the throttle. If yur not hookin up, you may need to ride it out a few feet off the line before punchin it. Keep the car as straight as possible goin down the track. Watch the tach, the speedo is not important. Shift up just below yur cams powerband limit. Good luck.
