I'm looking to install new points and have a question about whether or not the alignment on this new set is normal or not, or if it matters? It seems to me that it should be straight.
That kind of stuff bugs me and even though it probably doesn't matter that much, I'd be trying to get the point of contact more even.
Me too. I've got Napa getting another set in just to see if its any different but it seems to me it should be dead-on...especially being new. I can move it so it's straight but it moves back as you open and close it. Im not sure there's adjustment as it seems to be pressed and staked in position.

Normal and completely irrelevant. Fire it up, set the dwell, and run it.
Thanks all, got everything switch back over to points. Got the dwell and timing set and I'm working on getting the right carb in place but until then it seems to be running much better. I did have one last question. I installed a new lead wire and it has a brass crimp on it. The best I can figure is that it's a "stop" of sorts so if the lead is pulled or snagged that it doesn't yank on the connection on the points but rather on the grommet. Except that if it's down by the grommet it's too short to hook to the points. Of course if I'm wrong on it's purpose, or if I have things routed wrong than I'm hoping someone has the answer so I can fix it. As it sits I made sure that there was no interference between the lead wire and the ground wire when the base moves when vacuum is applied. I've circled the lead wire where the brass crimp is.
