Default Rear strut rods.

I'm considering installing new trailing arms. I know I am going have trouble removing the lower shock mount. Has anybody installed zerks in the strut rods to keep then lubed. I am thinking about installing high pressure zerks and lube them or BP blast them so they will be easy to remove.
I am thinking a "Grease Buster" would work well.

I would not install zerk fittings. Drilling a hole for them will make the casting prone to breaking. Before you try to remove the shock mount, soak the area with Aeroil or a mixture of ATF and acetone. Do this for a few days. Remove the carter pin and remove the bolt. I use a tool designed for the express purpose of knocking out the mount while saving the threads. You can get the tool for $15-$20 at the larger vendors. Screw the tool on and hit it with a 3 to 5 lbs. hammer. If it does not come out, add some heat. I got mine out and cleaned them up on a wire wheel. Upon installation, I used a generous amount of anti-seize on the mount. That should do it. Jerry

The issue is either the bushing is shot, or the inner sleeve is rusted to the shock bolt. We use the shock removal tool and a quality impact hammer and they always come out. You might want to squirt some lube in there a few days before you give it a try though. Putting a zerk in will compromise the strut rod and you're not going to get lube to the inner sleeve by doing this anyway.

After removing the cotter pin and castellated nut screw on a 3/8 inch pipe cap and hammer away.
Coat the shock mount with anti-seize before reinstalling.

This is what I had to do to get my shock mounts out.

Totally worth it, though. Consider heim-jointed strut rods, if you go through all that trouble anyway.
