I am possibly looking to add an aftermarket intake to my 70 small block, I know that the height is limited, what have folks found that will fit under the hood ?
Thanks for any help !
If you are not upgrading the cylinder heads and cam to accept much more flow from the intake, you do not NEED a different intake. Otherwise, read post #2.

But a new aluminum intake sure looks a lot nicer than the old painted manifold. Make sure to use Felpro gaskits.T

Without starting another debate about horsepower wars between Intakes, the question back to you is:
Are you willing to incorporate a "drop-base" air cleaner? If not, then the Intake with the lowest carb pad is the Eddy 2101. Maybe two notches better than stock.
Other options are using a 2.5" - 2.75" H. filter cartridge instead of 3".
For comparison of Intake pad heights, go to Edelbrocks web site and plug into SBC.
If you are unsure about purchasing new, there are a few used Intakes on EBay. Study the sellers pictures real close.
As stated above.
If you go to Edelbrocks website, you will see that most of their intakes "will not fit Corvette", however talking with their tech services people they will tell you that is based on the fact that they measure using the OEM air filter.
If you use a drop base air filter, which is very common by Corvette owners, you can fit most (within reason) aftermarket intakes under the stock hood.
When picking a new intake, it is like any other performance modification you make and they are rated to work within a certain rpm range.
So figure out where you want to make a little more power and go from there.
Adding a good aftermarket intake, new carb or having the quadrajet rebuilt by someone like Lars, and adding a set of headers will give you some noticeable performance gains.
Looks like there are at least 2 from edelbrock that should work the 2101 is listed at a height of 4.050 inches tall and the 2701 is listed at 4.270 inches tall...
Weiand street warrior is slightly lower (1/4") than Edelbrock 2701 Performer EPS. Every little bit counts when it comes to hood clearance on early C3's

Edelbrock 2101. Sure it will not do magic to a stock engine but what the heck it is a cheap and simple upgrade, it looks nice and you loose a few pounds of weight.
If the engine is still mostly stock, worrying which of these intakes will gains that extra 3 horsepower isn't really necessary. Use the one that looks the best to you.
Edelbrock's 2101 and 2701 consistently look good. Every now and again, the Street Warrior has an ugly casting area around where the name is cast into the top of the #1 intake runner. No matter which one you choose inspect them for quality and looks before installing one.
