The 700R4 is installed....I also purchased a B&M Mega Shifter. How hard is this install into the stock console?....What mods are required?....Will the shift indicator go on to the stock console or will there be some major mods to contend with? :confused: :seeya Cappy
Cappy, it's not that big of a deal. On the 73 the heater controls had to go and it wont fit in the stock console top with out cutting it. I bagged the stock one and fabed a new one. The tail on the back side of the shifter that holds that black box it came with has to be cut off straight. I had to drill 1 or 2 holes in the base to line up with the steel on the tunnel. The chrome plastic piece with the indicator does fit. You will need to drill a new hole for the cable. If you force it through the stock hole you will break the cable in a month. Don't ask how I know this :eek: .
Now for the other part. It looks cool and is unique but I would'nt do it all over again. If the tv cable on the 700 and the kick down solinoid on the 400 do the same thing, shifting it your self will cost you .2 in the 1/4. I've got a Transgo strip kit and hand shifting above the governor with the kick down hot makes a very slow mushy shift. The recalibration kit for 27 bucks will make the car quicker and will not bark, it will smoke the tires on the 1-2 shift. Now i just leave it in drive and it shifts at 5950.
