Fiber optics troubleshooting...
Sorry if this is been ask a million times but I used the search feature here and everything else comes up but...🤨
All my lights work but the interior fiber optics only indicates the license plate light. I took off the 4 screws to the dash panel to see if the connections were good there. Everything looks good. I broke the hot lead to my cigaret lighter, damn... So today after I fix the cigarette lighter lead I’ll continue looking for the optics problem... Any heads up on where else to look?
fiber optics are pure mechanical. the optic lead is stuck into the tail light body. picks up the light and the other end lights up at the console. first check the rear lights to see if FO lead has pulled out. if the optic cable has been broken or cut, there are youtube repair videos to reconnect them.
Have a look at all the connections at the tail lights ,park lights and head lights to make sure they are in there appropriate grommets and have got the proper lenses on them .The fibre optics run with the wiring looms ,so check for broken fibre optic cables .My 69 ones were not working when I got it and found they had been cut by the previous owner for some reason
Also check that the lenses inside the tail light housings are clean and clear.
Remove the light lenses and inspect.
I had an easy fix, in that the P.O. had re-sprayed the car without properly masking off the housings (at least he removed the light lenses).
So there was a decent amount of blue overspray on the FO lenses.
Once I cleaned them off and reinstalled - I got much better light transmission.
And as others have stated already - lot's of tips out there on the Internets!
If the car has been repainted, odds are that the lamp housings got some overspray in them and those plastic 'lenses' the F/O cable fit into are painted over so little or no light gets thru to the end of that cable. There must be clear path of light transmission for light from any lamp housing to get shown on a lens in the console display.

And to be clear they transmit light, not electricity, so using the blue compression clips to crimp them together wont work, like my PO did to all mine........
