Was looking over the support and radiator getting ready to install. There's an extra ground wire coming off the bottom and ending just under the fan. This wire isn't used in the diagram, is anyone using a DeWitt's and if so using this wire?
I’m pretty sure that goes on to a good ground, like the frame. I vaguely remember that mine had two though. I’ll have a look in the morning and report back.
I looked at a bunch of pictures on their website and some have it with the fans and others do not. I wonder if Tom might know why it is there. I bought my setup in January 2013. Here is the picture of my fans.
Thanks for the pic. On mine, the ground wire terminates at the screw in the bottom left (or in the case of your pic there, the top left) that holds the fan assembly to the radiator frame. I dont really see a need for it, or even how I'd use it, since the fans themselves each have a ground. Unless someone comes back with some genius explanation, I think it's coming off.
Naively, let me ask ya'll.....The temp sender in the corner, that is what you're using for fan control? Until I unpacked this thing, I assumed I'd be going back to the block and a sender there. I sure like the notion of coming up the radiator a lot more, though.
1) Ground for the temp sensor.
2) Ground for the radiator to prevent electrolysis.
Electrolysis can also be minimized by using the right coolant. I like the Zerex G-05 plus distilled water and have had no issues with aluminum components since 2001.
D'oh!
You guys virtually guided me into answering my own question. A ground for the temp sender. The radiator sits in these massive rubber insulators, of course it would need a ground to use the sender. The way that wire was routed and clipped up at the fan confused me, but I assume it was for packing purposes. I'l just unclip it and ground it to the radiator support. If it helps with electrolysis, even better.
Thanks as always for the advice. This forum is the best.
