Default Help with door ajar switches

I’m replacing the door ajar switches in my 69. I’m using aftermarket switches but also have the originals. The problem I’m having is the plastic white piece on the end is slightly bigger than the threaded hole. I tried dry fitting them before attaching the wires and I really have to force it in there to try and get to the threaded nut to screw it on. Should they be that tight? Even the old stock ones seem to be the same size. This is just a stock photo for reference.

do you remember what vendor you got it from? I checked the other one and its even worse. Will check with a caliper tomorrow but it’s definitely bigger.

Did my 68 last winter. Was a tight fit. Try sanding plastic part?

I did mine a couple years ago and they were not a tight fit. Certainly nothing I had to force, even slightly.

Default Door switches.

I just did mine. What a pain. The white plastic is hard and the new contact pins
wouldnt stay in the hole . At all. And your right it is a tight fit a little white grease
is helpful. I finally had to pull the points out the bottom of the switch. That seemed
to work. Mine came from Zip. Good luck

Is replacing the switch the "fix" for the intermittent "Door Ajar" light flickering on and off?

I got my switches from Paragon. 1 out of 3 fit. The two front door courtesy light switches were fine. So I’m going to get a pair from Lectric Limited and hope they fit better. The two that didn’t fit had significantly larger plastic piece. I tried sanding it down while trying to keep it from spinning but couldn’t get it sanded down enough. I’m sure if I sit there for enough time I could do it. Hopefully the new ones will fit. Glad to see I wasn’t going crazy and was the only one this happened to!

I think you should all send an "informative" note to Paragon. Maybe hearing from a number of folks at the same time will put some 'grease' on that 'squeaky wheel'....

For sure. Nothing will change if they don't know about it and take it up with their supplier.

One gripe by a single person doesn't do it for most vendors. If several come in all at the same time, something will be done. Fix it? Not sure...........

Bend the pins? No, you should be able to insert them in and then tighten down the threaded nut.

Those pins have a little tang on them that bites on
into the plastic of the switch, you’ll have to get new pins and attach
them to the wires. I just got mine from Zips. Very small and not easy
to crimp with out a crimper that was made for them. I don’t think they
are available anymore. Buy extra and practice. Good luck.
