What the "I am electric" crowd don't seem to understand is that the gasoline powered vehicle is all about the sound, feel, and smell as noted above. It is NOT just about the speed, albeit speed that is silent.....
Point number 2 that the electric crowd absolutely does not get is that electric vehicles are NOT free...either for the electricity cost or the environmental impact. Electric vehciles very simplistically are producing emissions on the other end of the energy grid spectrum...the power plant source...it is NOT free....There is no free ride where energy is produced or consumed...conservation of energy principle............The closest alternative to free energy is nuclear energy and try convincing the tree huggers to endorse nuclear..good luck....

Like I said over on the C2 board, I'm a dyed in the wool V-8 guy but I'd love to find a project C2 or C3 missing its drive train and put one of these in it. Not from any tree hugging point of view but I'd be very interested in the performance curve.
I've see some pretty innovative resto-mods out there, and while they might make the purists eyeballs bleed, I like seeing a new level of performance anywhere in the auto world. If they weren't so cost prohibitive right now, I'd already be hunting for a project Vette.

At this point in time, I’d think of these as novelties. Really along the lines of the guy that put a V12 in his Vette. Interesting and at a car show, I’d look and ask questions, but not something I’d seriously consider doing. I certainly don’t think you could make an economic argument for it in the foreseeable future.
Last year I was in the Bay Area when I noticed a really nice looking sports bike parked in a turn out.
I asked the owner about his bike and it turned out to be an electric.
Standing two feet away and not knowing, I would never had guessed.
The owner raved about the performance, the weight distribution and handling.
A couple of years ago Factory Five Racing ran an article about a guy that put and electric motor in one of their 33 hot rods and this 33 was a monster on the track.
With the engine cowl side skirts closed you could not tell any difference between the electric and mine with a 408 sbf.
It’s not for me, but it could be for many in our world of hot rods where it was considered “wrong” to run a sbc in a Model A.
I've seen them before and it's interesting, but the price is ridiculous. We saw some electrics at the Pike's Peak International hill climb this year, both cars and bikes. They are very competitive because there is no performance impact at high altitude, like a liquid fueled motor.
Following examples are in State of South Carolina YMMV
couple years back, hybrids & plug-in buyers/owners getting sweet gov't subsidies and tax breaks
Now, annual vehicle property taxes for those vehicles include an up-charge to help cover the loss of motor fuel taxes they don't pay ... for road use/maintenance.

Yup. My wife's Volt DMV gets higher every year. The car charger quit 2 months after warranty.
Doubled down on what your state (CA) was giving( $2500) to a whopping $5K for Georgians!!! Plus the federal giving $7500....
Then they realized that they were giving away a very lucrative $.31/gal gas tax...
I have looked at electric- but the batteries- motors- controllers - even getting them off a wrecked car- are still way too expensive.
I'm on board with some of the other electric motors on new cars-
-electric power steering
-electric AC compressor
-electric parking brake
-electric headlights
But to power the car - it's just not there- technologically or economically....
